The students in Miss Hinkhouse's Physical Science classes have been studying motion, velocity, and acceleration. To help students find real-world applications of these concepts, they worked in groups to design and construct their own cardboard sleds. While students could bring an unlimited amount of cardboard to school, the rest of their supplies were quite restricted. Each group could use one garbage bag, one meter of duct tape, and one meter of twine per group member.
Some students (and teachers!) may have been skeptical of the success of cardboard sleds, but Wednesday, January 28 was a great day for sledding at the Oakland Golf Course. Students were bused to the sledding hill and had three trials to sled down the hill and measure the time it took them to travel 25 meters. Not all of the sleds were successful and many sleds were demolished on the sledding hill but the students (and teachers!) had a great time!
