PC TAG 2009 - Day 1

June 22, 2009

by Cindy Beattie

June 22, 2009

PC TAG Academy began Monday, June 22 at the Riverside Middle School.  Students from area school in grades 5-7 will attend sessions throughout the week on Chemistry, Going Green (environmental science), Art and Shakespeare. Directors for PC TAG Academy are Rich Mortensen (Griswold) and Cindy Beattie (Riverside). To view a gallery of pictures of things that are happening at the academy, click on the stack of photos in the bottom right corner of each picture.

Students are given T-shirts that were designed by one of the students.

Students get to choose three of the four sessions to attend during the week. They also get a break each day where they get to sit and visit with students from the other schools.  Students attending are AHST, Griswold, Riverside, Treynor and Walnut.

The Chemistry sessions are divided into two groups - first year and repeaters.  The first year students learned how to make GAK. The repeating students from last year did a peanut exercise where they discussed qualitative and quantitative observations.

In Going Green students began to research what they can do to improve the environment.  They will become @ Home Experts throughout the week and deciding on one "green" idea their family can implement at home.
