New Teachers for the 2012-13 School Year

New teachers for this school year have been meeting since Friday, August 10th, getting ready for the new school year.
Crystal Davis comes to Riverside from the Knoxville, Iowa area. She will be the new high school math teacher. She will also be doing some coaching for the district. Crystal graduated from Buena Vista with a major in Math Education and a minor in Art. In her spare time, Crystal likes to play any sport and do paint and drawing.
Kimberly Piro is a multi-media artist who moved to the Woodbine area in 2007 from Colorado after graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Graphic Design. Kimberly worked at Lozier Corporation in Omaha as a graphic designer and printer, but teaching was always her goal. She went back to school at the University of Nebraska at Omaha to get her teaching degree. Kimberly is married to Seth Piro who works for the Green Hills AEA as a school psychologist.
Mitch Rice graduated from Knob Noster High School in Missouri where he participated in football, basketball and baseball. He went to Central Methodist College where he played football and baseball. After an injury, he stepped down from his playing career and joined the United States Air Force Reserves. He was a weapons loader on the A-10 Warthog from 2001-2007. While in the Reserves, he got his degree in Physical Education from the University of Central Missouri. In 2011 he took a coaching position and teaching job in Red Oak, Iowa. In 2005 Mitch married Jennifer Allensworth, a 2000 graduate of Riverside.
In 2009, Kristina Sturm graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City. After graduation she joined AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) - a ten month, team-based, residential national service program. She was placed on the Pacific Region Campus in Sacramento, CA. Through this program she has been able to live and serve the communities of New Orleans, St. Bernard Parish, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Seattle, Anchorage, Catalina Island and the El Dorado National Forest. After two years she's happy to be back in Iowa where her parents and five brothers and sisters live.
Charissa Henry received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Buena Vista University in May of 2012. She lives in Shelby with her husband, Chad, and two sons, Jacob and Nathan. In her free time she enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, and watching Jacob and Nathan participate in sports.
Joni Gordon grew up in Oakland and graduated from Riverside in 1999. She graduated from Buena Vista in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in reading and early childhood. She is currently working on her masters in Curriculum and Instructions and will graduate in December. She lives in Carson with her husband, Aaron and their three children. Emma will be in first grade. Jaxon is 4 and in preschool. And Livia, their 1 year old daughter, is their little miracle that is working on healing and growing at home with her nurses.
Newlywed Alison Henry comes to us from Iowa State University. She graduated in December 2011 with a degree in Elementary Education. Her emphasis is in English and Language Arts as well as Reading. In her free time Alison enjoys reading, painting, golfing, playing/coaching volleyball, and keeping up with her favorite team, the Iowa State Cyclones!
