Language Arts

In Language Arts we will begin to work on the story Moses Goes to a Concert by Isaac Millman. Areas of focus that will go along with our story are:

  • multiple meaning words
  • adjectives
  • vowel pairs (oo, ew, eu, ou)

Key vocabulary: heart, mind, alphabet, deaf, vibration, instruments, hearing


Tier II words

We will continue to learn new Tier II vocabulary words to help us broaden our vocabularies.  Words that we have had in the past are: balanced, diet, downed, slurped, imitation, stretchy, commotion, released, tire, shivered, sappy, tender, tasks, habitat, protect, muggy, dangles, filmy, cobbler, musty, barely, gear, examine, tips, sequence, disguise, retraced, nodded, bound, token, plaque, layered, audience, expression, enormous, nearby, fastening, tending, munching, advantage, penalty, quarrel, pest, distract, culture, knead, sprinkle, fussed, deserted, wobbly, scratchy, horizon, scurried, crept, luscious, smock, property, monitor

New Tier II words that we are currently working on are: signs, percussion, recovered


Spelling

Our spelling words for this week will be (List 32): tried, never, going, outside, coming, new, very, school, other, started, something, people, special, surprise

Math

In math we will finish our year with reviewing what we have already learned.  Things that we will work on this week are:

  • counting coins
  • making change
  • reading a clock
  • elapsed time

For additional math practice on-line click here --> IXL and work on P1, P2, P3, P9, P12, P15, Q2, Q3, Q4, Q5 and Q9 in the second grade practice area.  Students already know their username and password to get into the program.

 
Science

In Science we will continue our unit on plants and animals.  We will be doing experiments with plants trying to discover the perfect conditions for a plant to grow in and determining what plants and animals need (and don't need) to survive.

 

Key vocabulary: plant, stem, flower, leaf, root, bud, oxygen, carbon dioxide

Social Studies

In Social Studies we will be learning about ocean animals and life as an astronaut through our Scholastic News magazines.

Key vocabulary:
