Monday, January 16th

by Cindy Beattie

January 17, 2012

On Monday, January 16th, there was no school at Riverside Community Schools.  That doesn’t mean that learning wasn’t taking place though. Teachers at Riverside attended school for a day of professional development. In the morning teachers went to sessions on integrating technology in their classrooms.  Sessions that teachers attended included:

  • Video Editing (Instructor – Steve Allen) – editing video from Flip camera in MovieMaker or iMovie
  • Web Page (Instructor – Cindy Beattie) – creating a web page for our school web page
  • AEA Online Resources (Instructor – Liz Graves) – how to use online resources provided to us through the Green Hills AEA
  • DyKnow (Instructor – Jordan Edgerly) – management and teaching software for 1 to 1 laptop classrooms
  • Google (Instructor – Shawn Bluml) – how to use Google mail, calendar and documents
  • InterWrite (Instructor – Julie Ravlin) – software to use in classrooms to assist in instructing with interactive whiteboards
  • Online Presentations (Instructor – Mandie Reynolds) – how to use Prezi and SlideRocket for creating presentations (like PowerPoints) online
  • Evernote (Instructor – Cindy Beattie) – note-taking and organizational software that can be added to smartphones, iPads, etc. and sync so students have notes for classes that they can study anywhere and anytime.

In the afternoon teachers had meetings in their buildings to discuss changes in testing and report cards.  At the elementary they spent the afternoon working on standards-based report cards.  At the middle school and high school teachers spent time discussing the new ITBS/ITEDs and planning for testing later in March.
