Mandie Reynolds Explaining Data at SIAC Meeting
The SIAC briefly discussed the current district mission statement and looked at surrounding districts’ mission statements. The SIAC will discuss this further at the next meeting as there is a desire to revise it. The next item on the agenda was the Riverside mobile app, which is part of the goal regarding communication. Cindy Beattie talked to the SIAC about the process and decisions that we need to make in order to finalize our app design. The mobile app will be available this spring, and the SIAC helped to determine the must-haves in terms of accessibility as well as possible layouts for the app. The SIAC discussed the following options on the app: a banner across the top with important notifications (i.e. school cancellations, late starts, etc.) breakfast/lunch menus, social media links, calendars (including adding elementary/intermediate activities and day rotation schedule), JMC, lunch account payments, The Cube for athletic events, clothing order forms, contact information for buildings as well as staff, classroom page links, registration forms, volunteer/career opportunities, college-prep or post-high school information, an RYS link, and feedback option.
These options could likely all be part of the mobile app, but the SIAC discussed the need to organize content in a way that was user-friendly and easy to navigate. A few examples of what the mobile site could look like are shown below:
In the near future, the Riverside mobile app will be available free from the App Store and Google Play. Watch for updates regarding this app!

Members of SIAC discuss information in the data packet handed out at the meeting.
The SIAC also looked at data from the Iowa School Report Card and the Gallup Survey, which were provided in reference to the second goal of climate. Essentially, this data gave the SIAC discussion points regarding not only students’ current levels of achievement and how Riverside compares to other districts, but also about student perceptions of their own levels of engagement, hope, and future plans. The SIAC discussed the need to offer a balanced approach to post-high school opportunities, as data suggested students may not be aware of all available post-secondary paths. This will be something that will be the topic of future conversations of both district/building leadership teams and the SIAC.
The School Improvement Advisory Committee will meet again on Monday, May 22nd at 6:30pm at the Carson Community Building.
