District Mission

INSPIRE – UNIFY – ACHIEVE

District Vision

To INSPIRE so that we motivate others to bring out the best in themselves

To UNIFY so that we bring others together for a common purpose or action

To ACHIEVE so that others may find ways to attain a successful result

How Do We Live Our Mission/Vision?

Inspire others by expecting the most of them--Most of us will rise to the expectations of the people who believe in us.

Inspire others by challenging them--Challenge those around us to go beyond what’s easy and comfortable.

Inspire others by caring about them--Focus on what’s best for others and then show them that you care by the way you treat them and interact with them.

Inspire others by taking a stand for what you believe in--One of the best ways to help other live meaningful, significant, lives, is to set an example by living that kind of a life yourself.

Inspire others by having the courage to change course--Even as you stay true to what you believe in, be sure to remain flexible.

Inspire others by being vulnerable--Be honest about who you are and your own shortcomings and failures.

Inspire others by practicing integrity--Speak the truth, even if it’s not what someone wants to hear.

Inspire others by sharing the credit--Recognize the people around you for what they’ve done, and for their successes.

Inspire others by sharing your influences--Talk about the people who have inspired you.

Inspire others by listening to them--When you listen to the people around you, you show them that they matter, and that their ideas are worth hearing.

Unite GPS

The Board approved a proposal from Unite GPS and US Cellular to install GPS systems in school district owned vehicles.  The devices should be received and installed in the next few weeks.  The system can monitor and manage our transportation system. The safest and most efficient way to securely transport students is to have a complete view of our transportation operation. Unite GPS School Bus Transportation Solution Suite has been specifically designed for the ever changing school transportation environment.  When fully implemented a Mobile App will be available to allow parents real time location of their child’s route, vehicle stops and vehicle location.

School Active Shooter Plan Workshop

The Iowa Department of Education hosted an all day workshop to help schools develop high quality plans that cover active shooter and natural disaster events.  The district requirement was passed into law in Senate File 2364 requiring all K-12 schools in Iowa to write plans that help prepare for these types of events.  The district Crisis team will be working throughout the year to create a plan for Riverside for implementation on July 1, 2019.

Fire Prevention Week

Pottawattamie County Emergency Management as part of the Red Cross National SOUND THE ALARM campaign and in conjunction with National Preparedness Month (September) and National Fire Prevention Week (Oct 7-13), is making available free smoke alarms to families and households that are in need.  Look for a flyer brought home by your student and fill it out and return it to school.

Stop the Bleed Program

Pottawattamie County Emergency Management has also made available Stop the Bleed Kits that will be distributed to schools. Media will be present at the distribution event to help provide more information to the public.  Each school will have one to accompany their current Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices.
