Comprehensive Needs Assessment

This is survey was offered to all stakeholders.  It utilized questions aligned with characteristics of effective schools to provide results that help to determine strengths, areas of needed improvement, and goals to set that will enable significant improvement in the district.  This is a way to be proactive in giving stakeholders a vehicle to share ideas and opinions about our school improvement efforts.  Administration, District Leadership Team, School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC) and the School Board will analyze the results and report specific plans to address issues and concerns that are identified.

Iowa School Performance Profile-Released

The Iowa Department of Education has released new online reports showing how public schools performed in a new accountability system that meets the Every Student Succeeds Act, a federal education law that replaced the No Child Left Behind Act. The new reports, called the Iowa School Performance Profiles, include each school’s scores on a set of accountability measures. The reports display scores based on a school’s overall performance, as well as the performance of subgroups of students, such as children from low-income backgrounds.  A letter to patrons concerning Riverside Community School District results has been distributed to parents and a copy can be found on the website.

  • Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires all states to publish report cards reflecting the performance of the state, schools and school districts. Iowa’s new report card is called Iowa School Performance Profiles.
  • Report cards provide an overall view of school performance as well as more detailed information, making it easier for stakeholders to understand how each school is serving its students.
  • The Iowa School Performance Profiles reflect the core measures that contribute to a school’s accountability determination. The data will be updated annually.
  • Having access to clear and detailed information enables parents and other stakeholders to ask questions and better contribute to local conversations about school improvement.
  • Educators, parents and other stakeholders can use information in the Iowa School Performance Profiles to celebrate achievements, to pinpoint areas for improvement, and to ask questions.
  • The Iowa School Performance Profiles are not the same as the Iowa School Report Card, launched in 2015 in response to a state legislative requirement. However, some overlap between the two exists, and the Iowa Department of Education will work to merge them in 2019. The goal is to have one report card that meets both state and federal requirements.

Transition Planning for the 2019-2020 School year

We have been working on the final details of the Transition Plan for the 2019-2020 school year.  This includes moving 3rd Grade to the Intermediate School in Carson.   Please find the proposed floor plan for the Intermediate School for 2019-2020 in the January Newsletter.

Western Iowa Conference (WIC) Professional Development Day-Monday January 21, 2019

There will be no school for students on Monday January 21, 2019.  Riverside Community School District will be hosting other WIC schools to participate in professional learning activities.  Several keynote presentations, breakout sessions and grade level and subject area planning sessions have been scheduled.

Preparing for the NEW Iowa State Assessment

Each year the district is held publically accountable by taking the state assessment.  This year will have our students taking a newly developed online assessment aligned with Iowa Core Standards.  That assessment will take place on April 1-April 5, 2019.  The district will start planning classroom activities to help our students be successful by reducing student stress and integrating preparation into our daily instruction.
