Western Iowa Conference Professional Learning Day-Monday January 21, 2019

Over 540 educators from the Western Iowa Conference and other school’s traveled to Riverside Junior/Senior High School on Monday January 21, 2019.  This effort started five years ago as a discussion among administrators in the Western Iowa Conference about how to get teachers to collaborate.  It started out small as a collaboration day and has now morphed into a day of break-out sessions where educators can share what they are doing in their classrooms along with two keynote speakers.  Joe Sanfelippo, Superintendent at the Falls Creek District in Falls Creek, Wisconsin and Matt Carver, Legal Services Director for School Administrators of Iowa are the keynote speakers.

The Board will hold a Public Hearing on Monday February 18, 2019 at 7:00 PM at 330 Pleasant Street Carson, IA on the DRAFT 2019-2020 School Calendar.  The Board is set to approve the calendar at the Regular Meeting on Monday February 19, 2018.  Final details for the 2019-2020 School Calendar are still under construction.  We should have a copy of the March newsletter.  If you have any additional input before final passage, please contact the Office of the Superintendent.

Preparing for the Iowa State Assessment

Each year the district is held accountable by taking the state assessment.  This year will have our students taking a newly developed online assessment aligned with Iowa Core Standards.

That assessment will take place on April 1-April 5, 2019.

At this website: http://iowa.pearsonaccessnext.com/ you can find more information.  They have a Test Preparation link that includes Tutorials and Practice Tests to allow parents, students and teachers to gain familiarity with the computer–based testing platform.

Determining if a Student Should Attend School When Sick

If your students are exhibiting symptoms of illness, temperature over 100, vomiting, diarrhea, cough and cold symptoms please keep home until 24 hours after temperature is normal without the use of medication, 24 hours after the last vomiting/diarrhea.  Help us slow the spread of winter illnesses.

Comprehensive Needs Assessment

District Leadership Team and the School Board have completed a preliminary review of the survey data.  A summary of the trends for the last three years as well as an Action Plan to address items collected in the survey will be prepared at the next District Leadership meeting on Tuesday February 26, 2019.  The information will also be discussed at our next School Improvement Advisory Committee meeting.  Then the Action Plan will be distributed to the public.
