Video: Why I Teach

Educational Background:

Pueblo West High School (Colorado)

University of Northern Colorado (B.A. Visual Arts/Graphic Design)

University of Nebraska at Omaha (B.A. Studio Art/Education)

University of Northern Iowa (M.A. Art Education)

What I love about the subject I teach:

Art is not only one of my main passions and hobbies but also my career focus. I hope to share what I know and learn with my students while I venture through my own professional art career. My favorite moment as a teacher is that "AH HA!" moment when a student discovers their artistic potential. Since I teach all grades, I love different grade levels for different reasons. Early Elementary students are always so excited to make art; Older Elementary students are starting to explore the extent of their creativity; Junior High students are discovering who they are and that is reflected in their work; and High School students can direct their focus on increasing their skill levels.

Why I chose Riverside:

I'm not originally from Iowa so I didn't have much background knowledge on the types of schools in the area. I first picked Riverside because of the location, but stayed because of the amazing students, staff, and community at Riverside.

What makes me PROUD to be a Bulldog:

Every day I have something to "brag" about my students. We have some amazingly creative students here at Riverside.

The staff at Riverside has been so supportive and proactive in working to create the best learning environment we can for our students.

The Riverside community has been so supportive of our art program by providing out of class opportunities for extra art exploration and extra supplies for our students.
