Position: Special Education Teacher
Year Started at Riverside: 2008
AHST High School
Buena Vista University: M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction
What I love about the subject I teach:
I love to teach Special Education because I love to see the students' faces as they finally understand something that they have been struggling with for so long. Sometimes it is hard for our students to find their voice in the large group, so sometimes in my small, quiet group, they are more themselves and can share things they normally would keep hidden. Sometimes the kids teach me a different way of doing something as well, which I can then pass on and share.
Why I chose Riverside:
I decided to work at Riverside because I grew up in the area, live in the district, and it just felt right. I think that the sense of community that our district shows is awesome and wanted to be a part of it.
What makes me PROUD to be a Bulldog:
I am proud to be a Bulldog because of the sense of community here. We work well inside and outside of the classroom and school. The culture and climate of our school is awesome. From the first day that students arrive, they are welcomed and know that this is where they belong. The teachers and staff really care about the students as a whole and not just how well they perform in math or reading.
