CARSON, IA — The Riverside Community School District is asking residents to provide input on potential solutions to the district’s facility and equipment needs.
In November, a voted Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) on the ballot fell short of being approved by a majority of voters. In the weeks since that vote, district leaders and board members have been looking at alternative solutions to meet its needs.
The short survey, which requires approximately five minutes to complete, is anonymous and will be available through January 20, 2026.
Those unable to access the online survey at home can access paper copies at the district’s Central Office, located at 330 Pleasant St. in Carson.
“We are hopeful that residents will take this opportunity to complete the survey and provide the district with critical feedback that is needed as we consider ways to invest in facility and equipment improvements that provide our students with a quality learning environment,” said Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Anderson.
The voted PPEL would have provided additional resources to address needs identified in a 2024 facility study. That study highlighted issues such as ADA accessibility, fire alarm systems, secure entrances, classroom electrical safety, and outdated heating and cooling systems. Proposed uses for PPEL funds also included updating buses, rotating student and staff technology, adding interactive classroom panels, and expanding telehealth mental health supports.
Per state law, PPEL funds can only be used for infrastructure and equipment repairs, purchases, and improvements. Staff salaries and benefits are not eligible for PPEL spending.
