The JH Student Council greeted students as they came back upstairs for class after lunch was over. As they greeted them, they also shared an affirmation with them saying, "You're a star!" and gave them a Starburst candy to kick start their afternoon!

Our JH Student Council members have been selected: Grayson Calhoun, Krae Kroon, Casey Kvaal, Coretta Olmstead, Bella Diaz-Kulczewski, Aliviana Reed, Kyrie Porter, Bella Lariviere, Ella Crum, and Alice Branan. These students are ready to grow as leaders and serve those around them to create an another amazing school year together!

8th Graders presented to their peers today to share about their September reading books and to commit to a CKH Leadership Goal that they created for themselves. Students did a great job sharing about their books, and we are excited to see them self-reflect on how their goals are going in the coming weeks!

Self-direct is the CKH Character Trait that we will focus on during the month of October with students during their weekly CKH lessons.
Why focus on Self-direction?
Self-direction strengthens relationships. Self-direction helps to grow social skills and develop meaningful, positive relationships with others.
Self-direction teaches personal responsibility. Learning to self-direct teaches students to take responsibility for their own actions.
Self-direction helps us to regulate emotions: Self-direction empowers students to regulate their impulses and emotional responses to situations and circumstances in their life.

Do you have a question?

Yesterday, our 6-12th grade students at Riverside were treated to a great presentation by Anthony Kava. Mr. Kava is a digital forensics specialist and technology administrator for the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Kava spoke to our students about cybersecurity, data breaches, phishing and romance scams, privacy, and cyberbullying. We are grateful to Mr. Kava for his presentation and to our SROs Corporal Ferguson and Deputy Freeberg for setting up this opportunity for our school and students!

Congrats to Maelie, McKinley, Kate, Max, Chloe, Myah, and Brody for being selected as the September Top Dawgs! For those of you new to the MS/HS or just for a good reminder, we have grade level teams of teachers that discuss and select our Top Dawgs for each month. This year, we are focused on selecting students in a particular month who demonstrate strength in that category. This month's theme and advisory instruction focused on empathy, which is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Congrats to these 7 kids and all others who demonstrated these qualities at school, at home, and in the community!

Did you know? Riverside CSD is among the only 15% of Iowa school districts without a voted PPEL in place. Most have had this funding for more than 25 years.
On November 4, our community will consider approving a voted PPEL for our schools. These funds could only be used for infrastructure and equipment repairs, purchases, and improvements.
