Empathy is the CKH Character Trait that we will focus on during the months of August and September with students during their weekly CKH lessons.

Why focus on Empathy?
Empathy builds positive classroom culture. Empathy empowers students to learn to understand each other to build trust and safety in the classroom.
Empathy strengthens communities. Empathy helps students strengthen their relationships with classmates, other students, and adults at school, and at home.
Empathy prepares your students to be leaders in their community. The best leaders understand the people they lead and are able to show they care.

8th Grade students have been working together to create their social contract this week, and they did such a great job! The goal of the social contract is to create an agreement of behavior that students and teachers work to uphold throughout the classroom. To create the social contract students discussed the following four questions: How do you want to be treated by me the teacher? How do you want to be treated by each other? How do you think the teachers wants to be treated by you? How do you want to treat each other when there is conflict?

We want to keep families informed about our attendance guidelines so you know what to expect if your child misses school.

Here is the process we follow per semester:
➡️ 3 days absent – Call from a teacher
➡️ 5 days absent – Call from a teacher and a letter home
➡️ 10% absent – Letter home and notification to the county attorney
➡️ 15% absent – Barriers to Attendance meeting
➡️ 20% absent – Notification to the county attorney and possible legal action

Regular attendance is important for student success! 🌟

House File 782 mandates that all Iowa public schools restrict students’ personal electronic devices during instructional time. Riverside CSD has developed policies to comply with this mandate and will limit the use of personal devices in the 2025-26 school year. Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to a focused, distraction-free year ahead!

Congrats to Uriah Reed for being selected for a 2 year term on the State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council (SIYAC)! This is an exciting opportunity to bring a voice from Southwest Iowa smaller schools! The council meets with Governor, State Senators, and other State Officials. We tell students to get involved and this is an example of trying something new, getting out of your comfort zone and be part of change that will have an affect on future students. Uriah you are going to do some great things! Your hard work paid off! Congrats!
